What You Gave Tonya This Past Year

by | Aug 10, 2021 | Uncategorized

Tonya didn’t want to study online.

Tonya’s family came here from Egypt

2 years ago. Although she is highly educated, she knew little English. In spring 2020, COVID restrictions forced adult education classes online, including Tonya’s – for a while. The problem is Tonya doesn’t have a computer. She found learning English through her cell phone very difficult. She wanted to make progress quickly, but she was struggling.

Your gift enabled Tonya to study in person all of the 2020 -2021 school year. Her teachers overcame obstacles that most adult English programs didn’t even begin to attempt.

Tonya and her friends studied English safely in person.

Tonya was thrilled to be back in the classroom. She got her 3 young children up, ready and out the door every day for school.

Tonya’s diligence got results. Her confidence grew. Her English skills improved so much. She has found her “voice”. She also studied in our childcare worker program and now has a job in our preschool.

You can only see Tonya’s eyes above her veil. BUT, those eyes smile when she talks about her life now. She is deeply grateful to you for the opportunity to learn English in a place where she feels welcome, safe, and loved by people in the name of Jesus.
